David Jameson was born in St. Anne’s Parish (Essex County), Virginia. He was a prominent merchant in Yorktown and an inventor. He became a member of Patrick Henry’s privy council in 1777. He went on to become Lieutenant Governor under Governor Thomas Nelson in 1781 and then a state senator in 1783. Jameson served as Governor for just over one week pending the accession of Benjamin Harrison.
