KIM C. SIGLER, the fortieth governor of Michigan, was born in Schuyler, Nebraska on May 2, 1894. His education was attained at the University of Michigan, and later at the Detroit Law School, where he received a LL.B. degree in 1918. Sigler established a successful legal career in various firms in Detroit, Hastings and Battle Creek, Michigan. He also served as the special prosecutor in the grand jury investigation of corruption in the state legislature. Sigler was elected governor by a popular vote on November 5, 1946. He was sworn into office on January 1, 1947. During his tenure, state agencies were reorganized; and the department of administration was formed. After running unsuccessfully for reelection, Sigler left office on January 1, 1949, and retired from political life. Governor Kimber C. Sigler was killed on November 30, 1953, when the plane he was piloting crashed into a television tower near Augusta, Michigan. He was buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Hastings, Michigan.
