Matthew Heilman, known as Matt Heilman, is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. He was born on July 19, 2001, in Bismarck, North Dakota, U.S. Heilman is a member of the North Dakota House of Representatives, representing the 7th district. His district comprises part of Burleigh County.

Education

Heilman is an alumnus of Bismarck State College, where he earned an Associate degree.

Political Career

Before his election, Heilman served as a precinct committeeman for the District 7 Republicans. He ran for election to the North Dakota House of Representatives to represent District 7 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022. He assumed office on December 1, 2022. His current term ends on December 1, 2026.

Political Positions

Heilman has been active in various political positions. He supports House Bill 1494, which is aimed at making school meals more accessible to students. He also introduced a bill to allow university students to carry weapons on campus, stating that if students were carrying, it would be a great deterrent for people who want to commit violent acts against them. Heilman opposes sanctuary cities and supports a bill that would ban them in North Dakota. He stated that this was a proactive measure to prevent the “utter disarray” seen at the southern border from coming to North Dakota.
