Joanne M. Rodríguez Veve was born in San Juan on February 3, 1983. She studied at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Political Science, Summa Cum Laude, and later a Juris Doctor degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the School of Law of the same institution. She subsequently obtained a Master’s degree in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of Salamanca, Spain. She also has studies leading to a Master’s degree in the History of Puerto Rico from the Center for Advanced Studies on Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. As a professional, she practiced as a canon lawyer in ecclesiastical marriage annulment processes; additionally, she developed her career in the field of Human Resources, specializing in the management of labor issues. From a very young age, and guided by respect for the dignity of the human person, she has spoken out publicly in favor of the right to life, from conception to natural death; against the death penalty; in defense of freedom of conscience and religion as fundamental human rights; and in favor of the right to political self-determination for Puerto Rico.
