Wilmer Reyes Berrios, a member of the New Progressive Party, represents District 6 in the Puerto Rico Senate. He assumed office on January 2, 2025, and his current term ends on January 2, 2029.
He was born on August 18, 1993, in Long Island, New York, into a Puerto Rican family. He is the son of Wilmer Reyes Negrón from Coamo and Carmen Berríos Santiago from Corozal. He excelled from a young age due to his academic performance, completing his primary education at Susana Rivera School, secondary education at Ramón J. Dávila School, and continuing university studies at Ana G. Méndez University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management. During his training, he developed an interest in public policy, driven by his desire to improve the quality of life in his community. He joined the New Progressive Party (PNP) and assumed several leadership roles, such as Delegate of the Progressive Youth in Coamo and State Director of the Progressive Youth Organization, promoting statehood for Puerto Rico and good governance. In 2012, the birth of his daughter, Paulette Sophia Reyes Malines, further motivated him to fight for a better Puerto Rico. In 2017, Reyes Berríos began his career in the Senate of Puerto Rico, where he worked in the office of then-senator Dr. Carlos Rodríguez Mateo, in the Pilar Barbosa Internship Commission and the Government Commission, gaining experience in key areas of government. In 2021, he joined the Mental Health and Anti-Addiction Services Administration (ASSMCA), focusing on improving mental health and addiction prevention in the most vulnerable communities. In the 2024 Elections, he was elected senator for the District of Guayama, consolidating his position as a political leader committed to the well-being of his region. As a new senator, he assumed the Chairmanship of the Science, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence Committee, where he has already filed and managed significant legislation to improve government services for citizens.
