Thomas Moore (1759 – July 11, 1822) was an American planter, soldier, and politician who served as a Democratic-Republican U.S. Representative from South Carolina.

Early Life and Military Service

Moore was born in the Spartanburg District of South Carolina in 1759. He served in the Revolutionary War, notably taking part in the Battle of Cowpens at the age of sixteen. He later served as a brigadier general in the War of 1812.

Political Career

Moore was a member of the South Carolina State House of Representatives from 1794 to 1799. He was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Seventh Congress and to the five succeeding Congresses, serving from March 4, 1801, to March 3, 1813. He was then elected to the Fourteenth Congress, serving from March 4, 1815, to March 3, 1817.

Later Life

Moore was one of the founders of the first high school in the Spartanburg District. After leaving Congress, he resumed his agricultural pursuits. He died near Moores Station, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, on July 11, 1822, and was interred in Moore’s Burying Ground.
